Common Mistakes When Applying Eye Shadow

1.     Fall out

You spend an hour doing your makeup and you’ve done the perfect smoky eye. The only problem is now the area under your eyes is dark and splotchy and other than wiping it off with the foundation you cant do anything else.

Solution:

There are so many ways to avoid this. My personal fave is taking a setting powder (or any other powder that doesn’t have flash back) and tapping it under the eyes so that any fall out that occurs stays on that instead of your skin. When you’re done just wipe it off with a clean brush. Another common way is doing your eyes first and foundation later. You can also use a tissue or shadow Shields under your eye to trap the fall out. If you still find that there is fall out take a setting spray (Mist and Fix by MUFE), wait for it to dry and tap your foundation over the fall out.

2.     Not doing the Brows

More often than not, people go strong with eyes and forget to do their brows. Personally I am not a fan of brows as such, but they are important. It can bring your whole look together. If you do them first, you can decide how strong your need to make your eyes.

3.     Eye shadow doesn’t stay vibrant till the end

So many times you leave the house with a bright vibrant eye and you come home to find you can barely tell what colour you used.

Solution:

Easy peasy. Use a primer OR at least use your foundation/concealer over your lids. You can also use and eye pencil, either the same colour as the eye shadow or a skin coloured one. NYX Jumbo eye pencil in Milk and MAC paint pot in Painterly are also products commonly used to create a barrier between your eye shadow and the oils in your skin.

4.     Eye shadow creasing

Another easy thing to avoid, just be sure to powder your lids with a good setting powder, whether you have used primer/foundation/concealer or not.

5.     Blending

We’ve all seen countless eye makeup tutorials in the hopes of learning how to blend. The thing, I feel, that is the most important is using a CLEAN brush. Look at your eye size and try to use a brush that fits you. MAC 217 is too big for some people. Just wipe off your blending brush between applying and blending. That way when you start blending the eye shadow doesn’t spread everywhere and stays where you want it too. And use a fluffy round brush, not a flat one.
